Two Mexico men are facing charges after an arrest where they are accused of taking a Mexico Public Safety officer on a vehicle pursuit during the morning hours of Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
According to Mexico Public Safety an officer saw a vehicle at the intersection of Agricultural and East Liberty shortly before 9:30 on Monday morning.
The news release says the vehicle was known to be driven by 45-year-old Charles F. Fountain II, who the officer knew to have outstanding arrest warrants through Audrain County.
The officer pulled into a parking area to see the driver as the vehicle passed.
Public Safety says Fountain, who was driving, apparently saw this and began driving recklessly down East Liberty Street, passing other vehicles illegally.
Mexico Public Safety pursued the vehicle about eight blocks before Fountain stopped the vehicle and ran.
Public Safety says the front seat passenger, 45-year-old Shaun M. McIlhatton, also ran.
Officer caught both men within about a block.
Both men were taken to the Audrain County Jail. Fountain was charged with Driving While Revoked, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and numerous traffic offenses.
McIlhatton was charged with Resisting Arrest and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine).
