Mexico Lady Bulldogs Advance And Continue To Dance In State Tournament With Sectional Win Over Westminster Christian Academy

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs defeated the Westminster Academy Wildcats 68-53 in the Sectional round of the State Tournament on the road on Tuesday, Mar. 10, 2025.

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs used a strong second half to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Mexico would get down 17-11 after first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs closed the gap and trailed by three points going into halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs came out of the locker room after halftime on fire.

Mexico outscored Westminster 25-15 in the third quarter.

And bested the Lady Wildcats 19-12 in the fourth quarter.

The score was tied four times in the second half with six lead changes.

Mexico was led offensively by freshman Alyssa Miller who put up 19 points and drained two three-pointers.

Senior Claire Hudson totaled 18 points with 13 of those points coming in the second half.

And freshman Scottie Smith tallied 15 points.

Rounding out the scoring book for Mexico was Hannah Loyd with seven including a buzzer beater three pointer at the end of the third quarter,

Makenzie Taylor with six and Kenley Jones with three.

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs join the Mexico Bulldogs boys team in the Quarterfinals of the State Tournament.

The last time both Mexico High School boys and girls basketball teams made the State Quarterfinals in the same year was 1997.

The last time the Mexico boys won a State Championship was in 1995.

Mexico Lady Bulldogs will play MICDS on the road on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2025, with a 1pm tip.
