Mexico Claims Scholar Bowl State Championship

The MHS Academic Team bounced back from a Round 2 loss on Saturday to bring home a State Championship in Class 5.
After defeating Center in Round 1, MHS took a tough loss to rival New Heights Christian in Round 2, which put the Bulldogs at an extreme disadvantage heading into Round 3.  They not only had to defeat an undefeated Webster Groves team, but they also had to win by more than 250 points.
Mexico stepped up and won game 3 over Webster Groves by 300 points.
That had the preliminary standings of:
New Heights Christian 2 – 1
Mexico 2 – 1
Webster Groves 2 – 1
Center 0 – 3
Mexico advanced on points to enter the State Championship game for the second consecutive year  in a rematch against New Heights Christian, who defeated MHS earlier in Round 2.
Mexico saw a strong start on the back of seniors Andrew Peuster and Camden Williams, taking the first 7 tossups (out of 22 questions), and they never looked back, winning the Championship game 590 – 210.
This marks the first State Championship in Mexico Scholar Bowl history.
The Mexico High School team consists of Andrew Peuster, Camden Williams, Hunter Feger, Lucita Gleeson, AJ Leon, Elliott DeVargas, Trey Steelman and Jude Yancey. They are coached by Dale Schenewerk.
