Wieberg arrested, awaits charges

A 19-year-old Mexico man is behind bars today after multiple traffic violations on a stolen motorcycle yesterday evening.

Stephen Elijah Wieberg ran a red light last (Monday) night at Muldrow and Monroe Streets, right in front of an Audrain County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was stopped at the intersection.

The deputy recognized the motorcycle as matching the description of one that had been reported stolen earlier in the day in Ralls County and that was believed to be in the Mexico area. The deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, at which time the operator accelerated and fled northbound on Highway 15 from Mexico.

The pursuit continued along Highway 15 into Monroe County and ended in Paris, after the Weiberg failed to negotiate a turn and crashed. He then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by members of the Monroe County and Audrain County Sheriff’s Offices.

Wieberg was arrested and transported to the Audrain County Jail pending the formal filing of charges by the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
