Booneville Shots Fired Update
More details this morning about the shooting in Boonville on Monday.
One man is in custody after a gunshot was fired late Monday morning in Boonville, just a short distance from Laura Speed Elliott Middle School.
Police say a school resource officer was first on scene near Sixth and Locust, where a victim reported that 37-year-old Dorian C. Gardner pulled a gun, pointed it at them, and fired a single shot during an argument.
Investigators say the victim had been driving Gardner home when he allegedly demanded the car be stopped, got out with the victim’s phone, and then fired a round next to them, about 100 yards from the middle school.
Gardner then reportedly left the area with the phone, but officers later detained him near Spruce and Sixth Streets, and say they found a 9 millimeter handgun in his coat pocket.
Police report Gardner is barred from having firearms because of prior felony convictions.
He is now charged with First-Degree Domestic Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and First-Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and is being held in the Cooper County jail on a $200,000 bond.
