Accidental Randolph County shooting leaves student dead

An accidental shooting in rural Randolph County Sunday has left a fifth-grade Moberly School student dead.

Moberly School District Superintendent Christina Wright issued a statement saying the student died in an accidental shooting at his home.

The district is providing counseling and supportive services, with help coming from the Central Christian Church, Family Life Fellowship and Burrell Behavioral Health as well as neighboring school districts. Support is available to Moberly faculty, staff and students.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a juvenile who had been shot. They attempted life-saving measures and transported the child to a local hospital with the help of the Randolph County Ambulance District. According to a release, the youngster died at the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
