Sunday morning a hiker, who happens to be a Mark Twain Cave employee, discovered human remains on the property of Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal.
Authorities were immediately notified.
Crews from the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and began conducting an on-site investigation.
Further analysis is needed to confirm the identity of the individual, but it is possible this discovery may bring long-awaited closure to a missing person’s case.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released by law enforcement as it becomes available and appropriate.
