Jefferson City Lodging Association Renew Challenge to 7% Lodging Tax
The Jefferson City Lodging Association is challenging the city’s lodging tax again, filing a new petition after a judge dismissed its first attempt earlier this month.
The association claims the city’s 7% lodging tax paid by visitors exceeds state limits and that revenue is being improperly used to fund a new convention center instead of promoting tourism.
The group argues that when voters approved the tax in 2011, Cole County’s population didn’t meet the conditions needed for a 7% rate under Missouri law.
A Cole County judge dismissed the first petition on February 5, citing insufficient legal grounds.
