Columbia man jailed after armed threats

A man from Columbia is jailed on multiple charges after police say he threatened several people during a chaotic incident early Saturday.

Court documents say 34-year-old Wesley Brown, became highly intoxicated while with the victims and three children.

While driving on Blue Ridge Road, Brown allegedly pressed the car’s push-to-start button, causing the vehicle to stall, then attempted to shift gears while it was moving.

He reportedly pulled a handgun from the glove box and loaded a round, threatening the group and blocking their exit.

After Brown refused to let them leave, the victims eventually persuaded him to stop and exit.

As they walked to Brown’s home, a child tried to run away but Brown grabbed the hoodie; one of the victims bit his finger to escape.

The group drove away, and Brown was later arrested.

Prosecutors charged him with First Degree Kidnapping, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of Weapon, and several other counts.

He’s being held without bond in the Boone County Jail.
