The Mexico Public Safety Department says a residential fire on Latney Street Friday was sparked when a resident burned yard waste in a burn barrel.
The fire spread beyond the barrel, and the resident tried to put it out with a leaf blower before going back inside.
Fire officials note the blaze wasn’t fully extinguished and reached a carport, causing the home to catch fire.
responders from the Mexico Public Safety Department arrived around 1:30 p.m. and quickly extinguished the flames.
The carport and belongings underneath were destroyed, while the house sustained only minor damage and no injuries were reported.
