A 19-year-old Moberly man has allegedly admitted to stealing two vehicles yesterday and ramming one of them into the garage doors of two separate businesses.
Raymond Thomas was charged today (Tuesday) in Randolph County Court with second-degree burglary, stealing a vehicle, first-degree property damage and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
The probable cause statement says the man decided he wanted to steal a car. He found a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu parked at a nearby garage with the keys in it. He then crashed it into a garage door of the facility on Gillian Road, before driving it to a local car dealership and crashing it again into another garage door.
Thomas was allegedly seen on video crashing into the dealership and rummaging through the garage, before he took multiple vehicle keys and stole a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado.
When police arrived at Thomas’ residence, he allegedly greeted law enforcement by saying “The truck’s down there” and pointing to the Silverado, court documents say.
No word on damage estimates to the Mailbu, but employees of the dealership estimated the door damage to be around $8,000.
Thomas is being held at the Randolph County Jail on a $20,000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
