Capen Park Hiker Rescued After 30-Foot Fall


Columbia firefighters rescued a person who fell about 30 feet off a cliff at Capen Park Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were called just before 3:40 p.m. after the ground gave way beneath the individual along a trail.

Fire officials say the response was quickly upgraded to a technical rescue, bringing in additional crews and specialized equipment.

Firefighters reached the person within 10 minutes, using ropes and a high-angle rigging system to bring them to safety.

the individual was conscious and breathing and taken by ambulance for medical care.
