Jeff Smith Appointed Miller County Prosecutor After Matt Howard’s Death

In Miller County, a new prosecuting attorney has been appointed following the sudden death of Prosecutor Matt Howard.

Howard passed away just two days before the filing deadline for the upcoming election.

Presiding Commissioner Kevin Cardwell called Howard “a good man who will be deeply missed.” With little time to file, only one candidate Bob Seek entered the race for the August primary.

Meanwhile, Circuit Judge Aaron Koeppen has appointed Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Smith to fill the role through the end of 2026.
