Teen Rescued After Being Swept Into Creek in Gravois Mills

A teenage girl was rescued Thursday after she was found clinging to a tree in swift water near a creek in Gravois Mills.

Firefighters with the Gravois and Versailles Rural Fire Protection Districts responded just before noon to Ritchie Road, where the girl had been swept about 30 yards downstream from a low-water crossing.

Crews reached her from both sides of the creek, gave her a life jacket, and guided her safely through waist-deep water without anyone entering the current. She was not hurt.

Firefighters say the teen had been playing in the creek and tried to grab a lost flip flop when she lost her balance.

They’re reminding the public that even shallow, fast-moving water can be dangerous, especially after heavy rain.
