Columbia Worker Charged in Parking Meter Theft
A City of Columbia Public Works employee is facing felony theft charges after police say he stole coins from parking meters.
Police arrested 39-year-old James Faup Thursday morning following a tip that someone in a Public Works uniform was exchanging large amounts of coins for cash.
Investigators believe Faup took thousands of dollars from city parking meters.
He’s charged with three counts of felony stealing and one misdemeanor count.
The city says Faup is no longer employed and that it’s reviewing internal procedures to ensure accountability while continuing to cooperate with police.
