A hearing scheduled for 9am in Cole County Circuit Court for the five Jefferson City Correctional Center staff members thought to be involved in the 2023 death of inmate Othel Moore.
His death, according to the probable cause statements, was determined to be positional asphyxia with aspiration of gastric contents.
The five were part of CERT, a Community Emergency Response Team, that was sweeping the facility for weapons and contraband.
During the operation, Moore was pepper sprayed unnecessarily according to court records, and then was restrained with a spit mask and padded helmet.
Justin M. Leggings has been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree involuntary manslaughter; Jacob A. Case has been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree felony murder; Bryanne Bradshaw has been charged with second-degree assault and second-degree felony murder.
The two other suspects involved in Moore’s death have cases that are restricted from public access.
