Severe Thunderstorms have been rumbling across the listening area throughout the afternoon. Storms that rolled through Columbia and Mexico earlier today contained nickel to quarter size hail.
Earlier in the day, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed an executive order to activate the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan. That helps state agencies coordinate directly with local jurisdictions and thereby speeds up needed assistance.
The Boone County Office of Emergency Management also issued an alert ahead of possible severe storms this afternoon and evening.
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and to stay aware of any watches or warnings in effect. Also, it is always a good idea to identify a safe shelter location, if needed.
The City of Auxvasse opened up a storm shelter today, due to possible severe weather. The city announced that Grand Prairie Baptist Church, located at 104 N. Main, is open for public use, if needed.
City officials are monitoring the weather conditions closely, and if the shelter does open, a notice will be posted on the City of Auxvasse and City of Auxvasse Park Board Facebook pages.
