A Callaway County jury has recommended prison time for a Holts Summit woman convicted in a 2025 deadly shooting.
Heather Smith was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Kara Dills, along with multiple weapons charges. Jurors are recommending 25 years for murder, plus additional time for other offenses.
Smith was acquitted of child endangerment.
The shooting happened April 13th at an apartment complex, where prosecutors argued Smith deliberately fired the gun, while the defense claimed self-defense.
A judge will issue the final sentence June 18th. Smith is being held without bond.
