A suspect is dead after a shooting and high-speed chase in Boone County.
Authorities say 32-year-old Steven Swanson shot two people on North Douglas Drive northeast of Columbia, killing a 35-year-old man and seriously injuring a 65-year-old woman.
Swanson then fled, leading law enforcement on a chase along U.S. 63. During the pursuit, officials say he fired at a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, hitting the patrol vehicle multiple times.
The chase ended near Route P when deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the car.
Swanson was found dead inside with what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the chase, while the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is handling the shooting.
