A Jefferson City man charged in his wife’s fatal stabbing has been ruled incompetent to stand trial and transferred to the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
Court records show 46-year-old Malang Jan Akbari underwent a mental evaluation ordered in February and was found unfit for court proceedings in April. He faces first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and child endangerment charges tied to the January 12 killing.
Akbari pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. His attorney says Akbari suffers from paranoia linked to past combat trauma, which affects his ability to assist in his defense.
A case review is scheduled for December 10.
