The manslaughter trial of a Boonville man is underway in Boone County, tied to a deadly 2024 crash on Columbia’s Business Loop 70.
Prosecutors say 43-year-old Matthew Shilling was driving a truck that failed to slow down, striking a motorcycle and pushing it into an SUV. Passenger Christina Mayfield, 32, was killed.
Jurors heard emotional testimony Wednesday from Mayfield’s husband, who was driving the motorcycle and says he blacked out after the impact.
The jury also listened to Shilling’s 911 call, where he said he “blinked” and hit the bike.
Investigators say there’s no evidence Shilling tried to brake, and records show his license was suspended at the time.
