MU Campus Road Closures Begin May 18 for Utility, Energy Center Projects

A stretch of Rollins Street near College Avenue on the University of Missouri campus will close starting May 18 through June 5.

Ameren Missouri says crews will replace a six-inch gas main beneath the roadway, requiring excavation across Rollins.

Detours will be posted for drivers.

The west-side crosswalk at South College will also close, with pedestrians redirected to the east side.

Other sidewalks remain open.

The work is part of Ameren’s East Campus Gas Main project aimed at upgrading aging infrastructure and improving service reliability in Columbia.

Also Starting Monday, parts of Sixth Street and Stewart Road in Columbia will close for construction of the University of Missouri’s Energy Innovation Center.

The project will run through March 2028 and includes two phases of closures.

From May 18 to August 14, Sixth Street will shut down between Elm Street and Conley Avenue, while Stewart Road closes between Fifth and Sixth.

Longer-term closures will impact Sixth Street between Elm and Stewart.

Sidewalks and parking in the area will also be affected.

Access to Lafferre Hall will remain open, and drivers and pedestrians are urged to use caution.

Bus riders should use alternate stops on Tiger and Conley.
