Columbia Man Indicted in Armed Bank Robbery Case

A Columbia man with a decades-long history of robbery convictions is now facing new federal charges.

Seventy-one-year-old Basil Kyles was indicted this week in connection to a February armed robbery at First Mid Bank and Trust on North Fifth Street.

Investigators say Kyles brandished a firearm and took about six thousand dollars before fleeing.

He’s charged with bank robbery, using a firearm during a violent crime, and being a felon in possession of a gun.

Kyles also faces separate state charges tied to the same incident.
