A Cooper County man accused of abusing people at an Amish retreat he led is asking for his criminal case to be moved to another county.
Forty-two-year-old Sam Shetler faces multiple charges, including forced labor trafficking, kidnapping, sexual abuse and involuntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors allege Shetler held people against their will and misled the community into believing he had medical expertise, leading to the death of a six-month-old child.
His attorney argues extensive media coverage could prevent a fair trial in Cooper County.
Shetler has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed without bond.
