Major traffic changes begin in Columbia this weekend as the Providence Road bridge over I-70 closes at 9am this morning for demolition and reconstruction. The closure is expected to last about five months as part of MoDOT’s interstate expansion project.
During demolition through Sunday, traffic on I-70 near Exit 126 will be reduced to one lane in both directions, with delays of up to an hour possible.
Local business owners are worried the closure will make it harder for customers to reach there stores during the busy summer season.
The westbound I-70 ramp to Providence Road will remain closed through construction, which is expected to continue into early November.
