Missouri Appellate Court Hears Arguments Against Income Tax Overhaul

The Missouri Court of Appeals in Kansas City is hearing oral arguments in opposition to a new Constitutional amendment that would overhaul the income tax system for the state.

The arguments began at 10 a.m. today.

During initial debates in Cole County court earlier this week, plaintiffs argued that the amendment violated single subject requirement because it eliminates state income tax and gives lawmakers broad ability to raise sales tax.

The Cole County judge determined that the issue was constitutional on Monday, but the plaintiff has taken just days to appeal.

Income taxes currently make up about two-thirds of Missouri’s general revenue funds. Currently, the issue is due to go to the voters on the August 4th primary ballot.
