The Kansas City Royals fell to the New York Mets 6-2 last night, in a game that was mostly a pitchers’ duel until late.
A.J. Ewing gave the Mets an early 1–0 lead with a first-inning solo home run.
The Royals tied it 1–1 in the sixth on Salvador Perez’s RBI single after Christian Scott exited following five strong scoreless innings.
The Mets broke the game open with a five-run eighth inning, highlighted by Brett Baty’s two-run single.
Kansas City scored once in the ninth, but the Mets closed it out for the win.
Christian Scott struck out five over five scoreless innings, while Royals reliever Randy Dobnak kept Kansas City in the game with 5.2 scoreless relief innings.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 last night at Busch Stadium, snapping a frustrating seven-game losing streak against their NL Central division rivals.
Michael McGreevy celebrated his birthday by allowing just one run over 6⅓ innings while striking out six.
Alec Burleson powered the offense with a two-run homer and three RBIs.
José Fermín added a solo home run, and Jordan Walker chipped in with two hits, an RBI double, and two runs scored.
The Brewers struggled offensively, with Garrett Mitchell providing one of the few bright spots with two hits.
