Firefighters responded to a field fire in Shelby County after a hay baler went up in flames on Thursday.
The Shelbina Fire Protection District was dispatched to the fire about six miles southwest of Shelbina on Monroe Road 284 around noon.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a John Deere baler fully involved in flames, with the fire spreading throughout the field, catching several hay bales to catch fire.
The fire was brought under control after five acres of grass and six hay bales were destroyed.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 3:30 p.m.
