A man who climbed halfway up Columbia’s municipal power plant this morning has come down after making his way up around 6:30 a.m.
The man was about 150 feet up on the tower on Business Loop 70 East after sneaking past security. At one point, a local news source counted four fire trucks, an ambulance, and multiple police cars.
Officers reportedly spoke to the climber, who was identified as Richard D. Nichols of Columbia, for about two hours by megaphone.
A release from the police department states that officers arrested 33-year-old Richard D. Nichols of Columbia for Second Degree Burglary, Second Degree Property Damage, and Resisting Arrest.
Nichols was reportedly uninjured.
