Kyle Freeland pitched his first career complete game, allowing one run and striking out eight as the Rockies cruised to a win.
Colorado pulled away in the sixth inning with Jake McCarthy’s three-run homer, while Royals starter Seth Lugo gave up five earned runs over five innings.
Kansas City’s only run came on Luke Maile’s RBI single in the second.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 yesterday afternoon at Rogers Centre, by breaking a 1-1 tie with a four-run ninth inning,
highlighted by José Fermín’s go-ahead RBI single and Jordan Walker’s two-run hit.
Matthew Liberatore tossed six scoreless innings for St. Louis, while Max Scherzer matched him with six strong innings for Toronto. George Soriano earned the win, and Louis Varland took the loss after the Cardinals’ late rally.
