Water rescue this morning on Moreau River

Jefferson City Emergency responders rescued two people this morning on the Moreau River.

Just before 9am the Jefferson City Police Department received a 911 call from the two individuals, who reported that they
were lost along the river. Responders from Cole County Emergency Services, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department, Osage Fire Protection District, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol Division were dispatched to the area.

Emergency personnel accessed the river on foot from the rear of Lincoln University’s Carver Research Farm and established visual contact with the individuals. Responders determined both were uninjured but needed assistance reaching a safe location.

Due to the steep and inaccessible terrain and water conditions, the Jefferson City Fire Department’s Special Operations Rescue Team was requested to assist. Fire personnel used all-terrain vehicles to transport and launch an inflatable rescue boat, allowing rescuers to reach both individuals safely and remove them from the riverbank.

Cole County Emergency Services paramedics evaluated both individuals at the scene and determined they were uninjured. Both were provided courtesy transportation by the Cole County Sheriff’s Department back to their vehicles.
