The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department is looking to implement body camera’s for their deputies by the end of this fiscal year.
According to Sheriff Clay Chism the department has been testing the camera’s for the last 3 years.
Sheriff Chism says the main issue with not implementing them sooner has been with the state’s open records law.
Chism says it is a very expensive endeavor and they are doing requests for proposals currently.
The total cost is estimated at thirty five thousand dollars.
The department is hoping to have the system up and running by December 31st.
