Columbia Shooter Says He Thought He Was Protected

The man charged in shooting a man who allegedly ran off with his cell phone in Columbia tells police he thought the new “stand your ground” law protected him from being prosecuted.

23 year old Karl Henson was charged on Tuesday with assault and armed criminal action.

According to the probable cause statement Henson said he thought the new law allowed him to shoot the fleeing man.

The law allows the use of lethal force if a person reasonably believes he or she is in danger of having deadly force used against them.
