Pool Infection Known as Cryptosporidium on the Rise

Pool season is here once again, and health experts are warning about the spread of a parasitic infection in public pools and water parks.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cases of cryptospordium have doubled over the past couple of years.

Sandra Hewlett Audrain County Health Department Director says Crypto is one the most common causes of water born illness spread by pool water.

Hewlett says young children, or pregnant women are especially high risk because it leads to dehydration and weakens the immune system.
