The City of Louisiana is honoring a nationally prominent statesman who died a little over a century ago with a statue in Riverview Park.
Senator John Brooks Henderson co-authored and introduced the 13 Amendment, outlawing slavery.
Henderson was also a strong advocate of women’s voting rights and campaigned against corrupt government.
Henderson died at the age of 86 on April 12, 1913.
The ceremony for the revealing of the statue that will stand at the Mississippi River bluff is planned for June 30.
