Honoring Audrain County’s Fallen Deputies

This week law enforcement officers nationwide are being honored for their service and sacrifices.

The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office has lost 2 deputies in the line of duty.

The first was Sheriff Chalmus Blum, who was shot and killed by Jim Crump on February 10, 1924.  Blum had been appointed as a deputy in 1916, and became sheriff on January 1, 1921.

Deputy Andy Early died as the result of a car accident on February 1, 2006. Early slid into a ditch on black ice and became paralyzed from the neck down in 1996. He served the department of 6 years.
