Elementary school alignment is an ongoing discussion with the Mexico School Board.
The topic was again brought up at a special open session tonight (Monday).
Mexico Superintendent Dr. Zach Templeton says they are looking across the district to create efficiency on class size and how to best utilize space.
Dr. Templeton says one option is redistricting to create more balance in the district.
One plan that is being proposed currently is to expand McMillan’s Pre-Kindergarten program. Then grades one through five would be redistricted between Eugene Field and Hawthorne depending on where you live.
According to several board members more discussions will be held in the coming months with a target of aligning the elementary schools in 2020.
