Thousands Turned Away From Shelters In 2017

Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway released a report today [MONDAY] saying more than 28 thousand victims of domestic violence and sexual assault had unmet requests for shelter in the State of Missouri last year.

Peggy Payne, Executive Director of Our Safe Place in Mexico, says lack of funding has a significant impact on services that can be provided, and encourages lawmakers to increase funding.


In a statement, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley also urged Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act before it expires next year.
