A large crowd at the first public forum for the planned health care merger between MU Health Care and SSM Health last (Monday) night.
The forum took place in Jefferson City where more than 100 people gathered to hear representatives from SSM and Mu Health Care say the decision for the merger was based on keeping jobs, thinking about unmet needs, optimize patient safety, recruitment and development, and long term sustainability and ensuring professional futures.
Some residents in the crowd expressed concern that MU Health Care systems often have higher prices.
MU Health Care CEO Jonathan Curtright promised the crowd that he will not let that happen at community hospitals in Jefferson City.
A second public forum is scheduled to take place in Mexico on tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at Presser Performing Arts Center from 8-9.
