Ken Burton is resigning as Columbia police chief.
The announcement was made in a press release sent out by the city of Columbia yesterday (Friday).
The resignation will be effective on Thursday, January 3rd at 5pm.
Burton was placed on administrative leave last week and will remain on the leave until his resignation date.
The city says Deputy Chief Jill Schlude will remain in the role of acting police chief and a search for a permanent chief of police will not begin until after the Columbia City Council has a new city manager.
