CPD Concludes Investigation Into Officer’s Social Media

An investigation into a Columbia Police Department Officer’s Twitter posts has led the department to conclude he did violate the department’s social media policy.

Lieutenant Brian Tate was placed on paid administrative leave on January 3 while the investigation into his social media was conducted.

Acting Police Chief Jill Schlude said she cannot disclose specific personnel actions towards employees, but said Tate has been placed in a capacity that has limited interaction with the public until further notice.

Schlude also ordered an audit of all complaints handled by the Internal Affairs Unit involving racial profiling and the use of force.
