MU athletic director Jim Sterk is responding to the penalties handed down to the football, baseball, and softball programs by the NCAA yesterday (Thursday).
Mr. Sterk released a statement and says the Committee on Infractions has abused its discretion in applying penalties in this case, and the University will immediately appeal this decision.
Sterk said the process could take possibly up to six months, and the penalties will be on hold during the appeal process.
The NCAA handed down a postseason ban for the 2019-2020 football season, and banned Mizzou baseball and softball from the postseason in 2019.
The penalties result from the conclusion of the investigation into a former MU tutor completing class-work for 12 MU athletes, in order to keep them eligible to play.
