Fitzpatrick Seeks To Redeem Unpaid U.S. Savings Bonds

Missouri Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick sent a letter to President Donald Trump on behalf of the citizens of Missouri who invested in U.S. Savings bonds that have not been repaid.

In the letter, Fitzpatrick says numerous state treasurers and attorneys general have found more than 60 million unclaimed, abandoned and unredeemed bonds purchased between the 1940s and the 1970s.

The estimated value of the fully matured bonds is approximately $23 billion nationally, with $438 million owed to Missourians.

Fitzpatrick is asking the president to reverse a 2015 policy and work with the states to honor the government’s commitment to repay the bonds.
