Two Dead in High Speed Chase In Illinois With Suspect and Victims Being Identified

Authorities are identifying the driver and victims involved in a multi-state high speed chase that ended in a shoot out in Illinois this (Wednesday) morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the chase started in Jefferson City when 39 year old Leslie K. Austin of Jefferson City reportedly car jacked a motorist and kidnapped his girlfriend 33 year old Danielle Smith and her daughter.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies then chased Austin into St. Louis County where the Missouri Highway Patrol took over and chased the car into Illinois.

Illinois State Police then took over and deployed spike strips on Route 140.

Austin’s girlfriend and daughter then escaped the car.

The girlfriend Danielle Smith was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to survive, the girl was uninjured.

Austin then reportedly killed 69 year old Gregory Price while trying to car-jack his vehicle.

The chase ended when Austin pulled the vehicle over and exchanged fire with officers.

Police say they found him dead, and it is unclear whether Austin killed himself or was killed by police.

An investigation is continuing.
