An Oklahoma man will spend 26 years and 6 months in prison after robbing the Staybridge Suites Hotel on Keene Street in Columbia at gunpoint on May 31, 2017.
Twenty five year old Darrell Eugene Black was charged with robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a stolen firearm.
Black entered the hotel just before 2:00 in the morning and pointed a pistol at the clerk, jumped over the counter and demanded money. The clerk opened the drawer, and Black took approximately $200.
He then told the clerk if she did not open the hotel safe, he would shoot her. When she told him she did not have a key, he tried to tie her hands behind her back with a disconnected telephone cord. The clerk waited 10 or 15 minutes after Black left before calling the police.
Black was captured in Jefferson City later the same day.
