The Mexico City Council met Monday night and discussed updating building codes that have been in place for 13 years.
Insurance Service Office recently evaluated the city’s codes and the results came back as Class 10, the lowest score available.
The score can be improved by adopting the 2015 international codes.
The council was advised by staff to institute the code changes. with the exception of all new residences and businesses being required to have automatic fire sprinkler systems. Instead, contractors will be required to offer the installation during construction.
A vote will be taken at the next meeting.
