City Advises Not To Be Alarmed By Dead Fish In Lakes

The Mexico Parks and Recreation Department is reporting a number of dead fish measuring 8 to 12 inches around local lakes.

Audrain County Conservation Agent Norman Steelman says the fish are older shad that have died of natural causes, and this happens every year.

Steelman continued by saying that while the die off is going on the fish will begin spawning, and the population will not be affected.

Shad are the only species of fish that experience this type of die off, and anglers will not see a difference in fish they catch.
