Fugitive Arrested While Hiding in Pond

Moberly Police arrested a fugitive last night [Friday] after he allegedly ran from officers and hid in a pond near Allendale Manor Housing Complex.

Police say when police arrived at the residence, Christopher J. Smith was seen running out the back of the home into a wooded area.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were called in to assist in the search for Smith.

With the help of a K9 officer Smith was located completely submerged in the pond except for his head. He was evaluated by the Randolph County Ambulance District due to being submerged for an extended period of time.

Smith had also reportedly fled on foot from a traffic stop earlier in the day. He was reportedly seen by witnesses throwing a stolen pistol while running away from police.
