The Mexico Bulldogs baseball team with a heartbreaking season ending loss to the Hannibal Pirates 4-3 in 13 innings yesterday (Tuesday).
It was a semi-final game in districts.
The Bulldogs got off to a 2-0 early lead in the third inning.
The Pirates would come back to tie it in the sixth.
Each team scored a run in the seventh inning.
It was a stalemate until the Pirates scored the winning run in the 13th inning.
Ty Prince with 2 hits, Cody Rowe with 2 hits and Zach Watkins with 2 hits.
The Bulldogs reached 10 wins this year under first year head coach Brandon Shafer.
One of Mid-Missouri most anticipated annual events for high school basketball is changing locations this year.
The Norm Stewart Classic will be leaving Columbia College’s Southwell Complex and will move across town to Mizzou Arena.
The event will be the 12th annual basketball showcase named after former Missouri Tiger’s head basketball coach Norm Stewart.
Although Stewart never coached a game at Mizzou Arena, he stood on the sidelines of the Hearnes Center and Brewer Fieldhouse for 32 seasons.
The Norm Stewart Classic was started by the late Gary Filbert who was Norm’s assistant and coached at the Mexico High School.
The event raises money for the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer program.
This year the event runs December 6th through December 8th.
The St. Louis Cardinals were firing on all cylinders last (Tuesday) night with a 14-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
Redbirds starting pitcher Jack Flaherty picked up his fourth win of the year.
The Cardinals put up 14 hits, and Marcell Ozuna, Dexter Fowler, Yadier Molina, and Kolten Wong each homered.
The Kansas City Royals with an 11-5 win over the Texas Rangers.
Hunter Dozier had two hits and three RBI’s. Jorge Soler with three hits, and two RBI’s and it was Alex Gordon with two hits and two RBI’s that lead the Royals offensive assault.
