A survey presented to the State Board of Education last week indicates teacher pay is the primary reason teachers leave the profession.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education surveyed more than 6500 administrators and teachers from around the state.
The final report indicates 70 percent of teachers have seriously considered giving up teaching for pay, as well as administration and leadership.
Eighty four percent of teachers know someone who has left teaching in the last three years due to pay.
Missouri is currently ranked 42nd in teacher salaries in the nation.
